Pomo Canyon Hike, Sonoma Coast/Jenner
Saturday, July 10th, $1
9:15 a.m. (no-host carpool) Manzanita Lot
10:15 A.M. Sebastopol carpool from Seven-Eleven;
11:30 a.m. (trailhead)
Enjoy the beautiful and varied wildflowers of the Sonoma Coast on this 6-8 mile hike (depending on the group's interest in exploring further along the coast). We will be climbing through mystical redwood forest to rolling coastal green hills with great views of the mouth of the Russian River, to the beach and returning to Pomo Canyon Campgrounds. There will be a 720 foot elevation gain/loss. Bring lunch, sunscreen, wear layered clothing, hiking boots, and bring lots of water and wear a smile! There will be an optional dinner afterward at the Sizzling Tandoor Restuarant (on the coast).
Directions to Sebastopol carpool from the Manzanita Lot (meet leader at 10:15 a.m.): Take Hwy. 101 North to Hwy. 116 West. (It's about 8 miles further north after the Highway 116 East exit). The exit for 116 West will say Cotati and Sebastopol. At the end of the off ramp, take a left toward Sebastopol on Hwy 116 going northwest. Follow Hwy. 116 for 8 miles to Sebastopol. Turn left at the light in town onto Sebastopol Avenue. The name changes in one block when you cross Main Street, to Bodega Avenue. Go one mile on Bodega Avenue to the second traffic light, at Pleasant Hill Road. Turn right on Pleasant Hill and then make an immediate right into the Seven-Eleven parking lot. The leader will meet everyone here, in the part of the lot closest to Bodega Avenue. We'll carpool to the trailhead from here.
Directions to Manzanita Parking Lot (no-host carpool meets at 9:15 a.m.): Take Hwy 101 North to the Stinson Beach/Mt. Tamalpais (Hwy 1) exit. After going under the freeway, take an immediate left into the parking lot. If you are coming from the East Bay, take the Richmond Bridge to Hwy 101 and Hwy 101 South to the Stinson Beach/Mt. Tamalpais (Hwy 1) exit. Public transit alternative: GG#10 from San Francisco.
Directions to Trailhead (meet group at 11:30 a.m.): Take Hwy 101 North through Santa Rosa to the River Road exit. Take River Road to the town of Guerneville. River Road becomes Hwy 116 in Guerneville and continues west to Hwy 1 and the Coast. At Hwy 1, turn left (south) and cross the Russian River bridge. Take the first left after the bridge at the Sizzling Tandoor Restaurant (mile marker 19.79) onto Willow Creek Road. You may encounter a sign saying the road is closed ahead, but continue on past the sign, because the closure occurs after the trailhead. Continue 2.6 miles to the Pomo Canyon Campground Road fork to the right. Continue 1/2 mile to the parking lot and trailhead. There is an $8 parking fee. There will be a no-host carpool from Manzanita Parking Lot. Meet at the Manzanita Parking Lot at 9:15 a.m. and leave by 9:30 a.m. Sharp. You can also meet the leader at the Sebastopol Seven-Eleven at 10:00 a.m.
